Robert Reed (1938 to 2014) taught drawing and painting for over 50
years and was the first African American professor to be tenured by the

Instructor Julia Hickey studied art at Yale during Robert Reed’s
tenure and attended the recent Robert Reed drawing workshops taught by
his former students and colleagues. In his spirit, this weekend workshop
is aimed at all levels of artists, from absolute beginner to advanced.
You can expect to make many drawings--some observational and some
inventive--by yourself and collaboratively over the course of four
different 3-hour modules. The setting is both instructive and
nonjudgmental and there will be room for both skill refinement and play.

You will leave with a refreshed connection to your instinctual
artistic drives, or perhaps have a chance to connect for the first time.
Bring an open mind and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
